Winter Solstice Golden Milk
So, the winter solstice is coming up, and if you’re anything like me, the holidays can be... well, a bit complicated. I mean, how do you celebrate when the old traditions no longer fit? When the holidays were once filled with rituals that didn’t really serve you anymore, it can feel like you’re left with a blank slate. But guess what? The winter solstice is the perfect opportunity to start fresh, find new rituals, and honor the beauty of the season in a way that actually feels good.
Now, we're not here to give you a lecture on why the solstice is magical (although, spoiler alert: it totally is. You can always read more here). Instead, we want to share something special—a little recipe to help you cozy up, celebrate the return of the light, and feel warm from the inside out. Say hello to Golden Milk. ☕✨
If you’ve never had it before, golden milk is a warm, spiced drink made with turmeric, mil,k and other cozy spices like cinnamon and ginger. It’s the perfect winter drink because it’s not only warming, but it also carries some beautiful symbolism, especially when you’re celebrating the winter solstice.
Here’s why it’s such a fitting drink for this time of year:
1. It’s a drink full of light.
Turmeric, the main star of the show, is bright golden-yellow. And when you sip it, it feels like you’re drinking sunshine. This drink is a reminder that even though the days are short and the nights are long, the light is slowly returning. It’s like nature’s way of saying, “Hang in there, brighter days are coming!”
2. It’s warming, inside and out.
The solstice is all about turning inward and finding warmth in the stillness. A cup of golden milk is like a hug in a mug. The warming spices like ginger and cinnamon create a sense of comfort, while the milk (or plant-based alternative) adds a smooth, soothing element. It’s the perfect drink for those long, cozy evenings by the fire—or, let’s be real, curled up on the couch with a blanket.
3. It’s about new beginnings.
The solstice marks the return of the light, the shift toward longer days and the promise of renewal. The golden color of this drink feels like a symbol of that new energy coming in. It’s a reminder that you are also beginning a new chapter, one where you can create your own traditions, choose what feels nourishing, and let go of what no longer serves you. Cheers to new beginnings, right?
Now, let’s get to the good part—the recipe. We were inspired by this amazing authentic recipe here. Be sure to read it because she uses whole spices (and has SO MUCH amazing info written in the post). Here’s our take on how to make your own cozy Winter Solstice Golden Milk:
Golden Milk Latte Recipe
Ingredients:
- 1 cup of milk (whatever you love)
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- ½ tsp cinnamon
- ¼ tsp ginger (ground or grated fresh)
- Pinch of ground cardamom
- Pinch of ground cloves
- Pinch of black pepper (trust me, it’s magic with turmeric!)
- ½ tsp vanilla extract (optional, but it adds a nice warmth)
- 1 tsp. honey (add more if needed)
- 1 tsp. coconut oil
Instructions:
- In a small saucepan, combine the milk, turmeric, cinnamon, ginger, cardamom and cloves. Stir well.
- Warm it over medium heat, whisking constantly until it’s heated through (but not boiling).
- Remove from heat, and stir in the honey, black pepper, coconut oil, and vanilla extract.
- Pour into your favorite mug, find a comfy spot, and sip away.
That’s it! It’s simple, nourishing, and symbolic of the light and warmth that’s on its way.
As you sip your golden milk, take a moment to reflect on the season ahead. The solstice is the perfect time to let go of old patterns and make room for the new. Maybe you want to set an intention for this new season (check out all of these ideas we complied for you) or maybe you just want to take some time to appreciate the quiet. Whatever it looks like for you, this is your time to make your own traditions.
We're so glad we’re on this journey together. Here’s to finding new rituals that bring us warmth, light, and peace during this special time of year. Wishing you all a cozy, joyful solstice!
