A Candle Meditation (for anxious thoughts)

This is a candle meditation for anxious thoughts. We all experience those moments when we are unable to focus clearly and get out of our heads because we are consumed with anxiety-filled thoughts. This is a mediation meant to enable you to stop, get mindful and refocus your thoughts.

Find a space were you can be alone and gather up a candle and matches. Light a candle and turn off other lights in the room.

As you focus your attention on the flame, take a few deep cleansing breaths. In and out.

As you are looking into the flame begin to voice each thought that is overwhelming you one by one and say aloud, “I give this thought to the flame.” Imagine this thought leaving your mind and now burning with a life of its own in the flame of the candle. 

When you are finished transferring your thoughts, take a moment to simply watch the flame flicker and be present in the moment.  

Once you feel your mind is at rest, snuff out the flame as a tangible reminder that have let these thoughts run their course.

These thoughts may have felt as though they could start a forest fire just a moment ago, yet now they can easily be snuffed out.
